Steps to expedite your appointment:
Via text, we will get you set up as a new patient. You’ll download a free HIPAA-compliant app, Spruce, which makes you a patient in our system. Once downloaded, we will send your forms. Intake forms must be filled out prior to securing an appointment!

Curious about your appointment? Read our What to Expect info page.

If you are suffering, we ask that you to fill out a HELP score (hyperemesis severity score). Text us your score. We can usually get patients in very quickly!

About our Alabama Clinic:

  • OBGYN approved and run by an Emergency Medicine Physician, Dr. Housholder, the HG & Morning Sickness Clinic focuses on treating your symptoms of nausea and vomiting, while the OBGYN or midwife caring for your pregnancy continues to see you for the overall health of your pregnancy. Read all about your first appointment at our Birmingham, Alabama clinic, here.

  • Dr. H does preconception appointments! This appointment educates you on the latest research surrounding HG prevention. During this preconception appointment, Dr. H walks you through not only possible prevention pathways, but also discusses prior pregnancies and what could be done in the future if you were to get HG again.

Dr. H makes a treatment plan for your future pregnancy that can be implemented the moment symptoms arise. You will have access to Dr. H and his care team through an app during your time TTC and during your pregnancy.

  • If you are an Alabama patient, we are in network with most major insurers, including Blue Cross (we are not High Performance Plan providers), Viva, Cigna, Aetna, United, and Medicaid of Alabama. If you don’t see your insurance listed, please text or call us.

View our Alabama insurance and payment page for more details.

  • If you need to reschedule, we ask that you let us know 24 hours in advance to avoid a $20 cancellation or no-show fee.

  • If you live in Alabama, but too far away to drive to clinic, we can still take care of you! We can coordinate care for you through telehealth, at home medication management, local infusion companies and home health.

  • View our wellness infusion menu. We offer wellness vitamin infusions in clinic! These IV vitamins are specifically recommended for women. Dr. Housholder also has an infusion blend specifically for patients struggling with iron deficiency.

Wellness infusions are for pregnant women wanting a vitamin or energy boost in pregnancy.

Wellness infusions are not covered under insurance. If you are in Alabama and are suffering from nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, you qualify for treatments covered under your insurance through our clinic.

  • Our Birmingham Clinic offers iron infusions! You can view more information about getting an iron infusion here.

  • Children are welcome! If you need to bring your children, you can ask to be placed in our ‘play’ room complete with toys, coloring books and cartoons.

  • It can be devastating for our HG patients to contract contagious illnesses such as flu, covid or the stomach bug. Therefore, if you’ve had fever, chills, cold symptoms or viral stomach bug symptoms, please refrain from making an appointment in our clinic until your contagious symptoms pass.

  • Our patients are very sensitive to smells. Visitors are not allowed to have any outside food or drink. Visitors (and patients) need to strive to be as fragrance free as possible. We have snacks and drinks available for patients who feel like eating during their treatments.
