Vomiting in Pregnancy
80% of pregnant people have nausea, and 50% have vomiting. But how much vomiting is too much vomiting? It all depends on how much you are vomiting, and how much you are able to hold down.
If you can hold down your prenatal vitamins, a full 3 meals, and 6-8 cups of fluids a day and are gaining weight, those good signs. If you are struggling to hold down meals, fluids and vitamins, and losing or not gaining weight, you need to get better control of your symptoms with the help of a physician who understands nausea and vomiting of pregnancy and HG management.
Dr. Housholder is the world’s leading physician focusing on hyperemesis gravidarum and nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. He works in tandem with your pregnancy health care provider to get you the care you need to keep you and baby healthy.

Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is treatable
Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy ranges from mild to completely debilitating. The societal norm is that pregnant people should just suffer through their nausea and vomiting or “morning sickness.” We are here to say that nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is treatable! What works for your body will vary based on your pregnancy, your genetics, your symptoms and your own tolerances. What worked during a previous pregnancy may not work for this pregnancy. If you are having moderate to severe morning sickness, it's important to get on a good treatment regimen early, because early treatment can prevent progression to Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which is the extreme end of the spectrum of morning sickness.
If vomiting is affecting your daily life and ability to eat, reach out to us at The Morning Sickness Clinic. You can call/text 205-772-9595 and book an appointment to see our physician who will make a custom treatment plan for your symptoms.
Many studies show that starting treatment for nausea as early as possible can prevent symptoms from progressing.
“Some pregnant people worry about the effects of treatment on their babies, so they wait until they are very dehydrated to seek help. We tailor our treatment plans to our patients’ concerns, because if you don’t get your questions answered, you’re not going to feel better. And that’s what we want. We want you to feel better.”

The Morning Sickness Clinic
Dr. Housholder recognized the lack of availability of treatment options for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy and decided to do something about it.
While working in the ER here in Birmingham, Dr. Housholder quickly saw a problem with the availability of treatment options for nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. Those suffering could make an expensive trip to the ER, experience repeat hospitalizations or continue to be miserable at home.
Dr. Housholder founded The HG & Morning Sickness Clinic on the idea that pregnant patients should have access to safe, physician-guided treatment with intravenous fluids for moderate to severe morning sickness.
Dr. Housholder is the world’s leading physician treating extreme nausea and vomiting in pregnancy or Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). Dr. Housholder collaborates with Dr. Marlena Fejzo, one of TIME’s Women of the Year and the leading researcher on HG. Dr. Housholder follows the most up-to-date research on HG treatments using ACOG and HER Foundation protocols.
The HG & Morning Sickness Clinic focuses on one thing: safe, convenient care for pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting.
